Small Business Employee Satisfaction Surveys
Do You Have Any of These Problems?
- Quality employees resigning.
- High hiring and training costs due to high employee turnover.
- Decreased productivity.
- Poor employee morale.
- Difficulty convincing potential new hires to work for your company.
- Negative rumors circulating throughout the company.
- Poor employee treatment of customers.
If so, an employee satisfaction survey can help you to pinpoint the cause of your problem and place you on the road to solving it.
Proof that Employee Satisfaction Levels Make a Difference
High employee satisfaction levels can reduce turnover. The below graph, compiled from recent studies we have completed, shows the disparity between highly satisfied employees and dissatisfied employees in response to the question "how long do you plan to continue your career with this company?" More than eight of ten highly satisfied employees intended to stay more than two years, compared to two of ten dissatisfied employees.

Not only are dissatisfied employees more likely to say they will be leaving the company soon, they are not very likely to recommend their company to a friend, potentially making it more difficult for a company to recruit future employees.
What The Business Research Lab's Employee Satisfaction Surveys Will Let You Do
- Measure the level of satisfaction felt by employees. This is the first step in the process of improving employee satisfaction. You'll find out what proportion of your employees are highly satisfied and what percentage are dissatisfied. As you make improvements based on the answers to other questions in the survey, you'll be in a position to measure the effectiveness of the improvements by measuring satisfaction with a second survey a year or two in the future.
- Identify policies, procedures, and management practices which could result in higher employee satisfaction if changed. You'll
have employee opinions, gathered through targeted questions, on
a number of items.
Our Off-the-Shelf Employee Satisfaction Survey
This survey is designed for small-to-mid sized companies. For much less than the cost of hiring and training a new employee, you'll be able to diagnose and solve problems which are at the root of any turnover and morale problems your company may be experiencing. We sell it in two forms -- as an off-the-shelf product, where we use the questionnaire in its existing form (with minor modifications as needed) and conduct the survey for you, and as our E-Value2003 Employee Satisfaction Survey, which can be used by a firm to conduct its own survey.
Here is some of what our four-page questionnaire contains and does . . .
- Overall satisfaction with the employer,
- Attributes addressing the following areas:
- Communication and planning,
- The employees role at the company,
- Corporate culture,
- The employee's immediate supervisor,
- Employee training.
- Pay and benefits. Focus your
benefits improvements on items perceived by employees to be
in need of improvement. Don't waste the firm's money by
improving benefits with which the employees are pleased.
- Suggestions for future benefits,
- Future career plans,
- Would the employee recommend the company to a friend for employment?
- Employee suggestions to improve satisfaction. Comments can be a gold mine, alerting you to problem management practices. You'll learn things from the comments that employees would never tell directly.
- A battery of demographic questions. If the sample size is large enough, we can show differences in opinions and needs by these key demographic variables.
- Know where to focus your efforts at
improving employee satisfaction. As part of the analysis, we
calculate the relative importance of various policies,
procedures, and management practices with regard to employee
satisfaction.
The Survey Implementation Process
You'll review the questionnaire and tell us what benefits to include in your survey. We'll modify the questionnaire to meet your needs. We'll do as much or as little of the printing as you require. The documents we can provide include the following:
- Questionnaires, customized with your company's name.
- Cover Letter, on your letterhead.
- Outgoing envelopes, to be used for interoffice distribution.
- Return envelopes.
We have a working relationship with a printing specialist. If you desire, we will produce the questionnaires, cover letters, outgoing and return envelopes. Or, if you prefer, you can save money by printing these items internally, using originals supplied by the Business Research Lab at no additional charge.
The questionnaire should be distributed via interoffice mail with an accompanying cover letter. Ideally, the cover letter should be signed by the company president. To protect the anonymity of the respondents (which will result in more honest answers and a higher response rate), it is best if the questionnaire is returned directly to The Business Research Lab using an enclosed pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope.
We will collect completed questionnaires until whatever time cut-off you specify. We will enter all data and provide a report summarizing the quantitative results. All comments will be transcribed verbatim and included in the report. Our price includes one analysis, for any time period you define. If you contract with us to provide reports for different time periods, we will show quantitative trends in the data.
Pricing
We usually can conduct an entire Off-the-Shelf project (customized to meet your needs) for a cost of between $1000 and $7000, plus return postage and printing costs. Actual price may be above or below this range, depending upon the sample size and amount of customization required. For a firm bid, call us via our toll-free number, 1-866-960-9824.
Or, if you prefer, contact us by email.

We currently have a sample of our employee satisfaction questionnaire, in Microsoft Word 6.0 format, available for download in our download page.
Partial Customization
Our Off-the-Shelf survey can be customized to a certain extent at no additional charge. You can select the benefits about which you wish to ask, and substitute attributes of your own choosing. If you need extensive changes, such as a lengthier questionnaire or a number of specific questions which do not fit the Off-the-Shelf format, you may be a candidate for a custom survey.
