The Fishy Boss

I worked at an upscale state resort restaurant when I was nineteen years old. My boss seemed nice at first but I noticed right away that the other employees couldn't stand him. I soon learned out why everyone seemed so hostile every time he entered the room.

I clocked in one morning to open. I saw that night shift had forgotten to put some fish away. It was about ninety degrees inside the kitchen so I threw the fish away. When the boss got in and saw it in the trash he hit the roof! He started screaming and cursing asking who threw that fish away. I explained to him that it had been sitting out for eight hours in the heat.

He put his face right against mine and screamed at me that I was single handedly trying to destroy his career by making his food costs go up. He then pulled the food out of the garbage can and cut the rotten spots off and served it at lunch!

I gave him my two weeks notice immediately and found another job. He then had the audacity to ask why I was leaving and if I would consider staying if he gave me a ten cent raise. Needless to say I left. I found out a few years later that he was transferred to another resort and fired after he slapped another employee in the face for spilling ketchup.
