This from
a very reliable source. A dozen or so years ago an executive
was in a meeting at which the CEO of a major regional bank was
present. The CEO asked the executive a financial question, and the executive
made an error. The CEO berated her in front of her peers,
and made her count from 1 to 10, and then backwards from 10
to one to "prove" that she understood mathematics. By
the time she finished counting, she was in tears.
This CEO, a relic of
times gone by, has since retired. The executive in question is quite successful
in a higher position at the bank, which has
since been purchased and absorbed into a larger institution.
